Balsamic-Macerated Strawberries
Serves 4
A delicious accompaniment for your favorite dessert - or even breakfast! These berries are delicious with super creamy vanilla ice cream, Polenta Cake, Olive Oil Cake, or your favorite yogurt.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces strawberries (hulled and cut into quarters (about 2 cups))
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon aged balsamic vinegar (plus more to taste)
- Pepper (to taste)
Directions
- In a non-reactive bowl, toss strawberries, sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar until well-combined.
- Set aside to macerate (soften) until a syrup forms at the bottom of bowl, at least 15 minutes. You may also leave to sit overnight in fridge.
- Before serving, sprinkle berries with freshly ground black pepper and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Toss and adjust to taste.
