Best Berry Crisp

Ingredients

FILLING

  • 6 cups blueberries, raspberries or blackberries, or a mix
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

TOPPING

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted and cooled)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Optional Ingredients

  • Sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Directions

  1. Adjust oven rack to middle position. Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 2-quart baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine berries, flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Stir to blend well. Spoon into buttered baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, stir together oats, flour, sugars, and salt. Stir in melted butter and nuts, mixing well. Sprinkle over berry filling.
  4. Place baking dish on a sheet pan to catch drips. Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until filling is bubbling and topping is golden and crisp.
  5. Serve warm or cool with ice cream or whipped cream.
  6. Cook's Note:
  7. When fresh berries aren't in season, substitute with 2 pounds frozen berries and increase all-purpose flour in filling to 1/2 cup.
