Homemade Strawberry Sauce

Homemade Strawberry Sauce

MAKES ABOUT 1-1/3 CUPS
Delicious on ice cream, waffles, or drizzled on oatmeal—try it on just about anything. The sugar needed will vary depending on the ripeness of your berries.

Ingredients

  • 1 pint strawberries (hulled and sliced)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (or more, to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Directions

  1. Combine strawberries and sugar together in medium saucepan. Bring to simmer over medium heat. Cook until berries begin to break down, 8 to 10 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water. Add slurry to strawberries and simmer 1 minute, or until thickened. Stir in lemon juice. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
  3. Serve immediately or chill, covered, in refrigerator up to 2 days.
