Spiced Orange-Cranberry Sauce

MAKES ABOUT 3 CUPS
Make this easy cranberry sauce up to three days ahead. Bring sauce to room temperature before serving.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1-inch piece ginger root (peeled and sliced crosswise into coins)
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • Kosher salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine cranberries, orange juice, sugar, cinnamon stick, and ginger root.
  2. Bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve sugar. Continue to cook until cranberries have popped and sauce has thickened, about 15 minutes.
  3. Serve at room temperature or transfer to a covered container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
